Music at GMAS

Music is taught to all students from Pre-Primary to Year 9, by Music specialists. All courses are written with the aim of engaging students in a practical appreciation of music in regards to how we utilise and consume it in our everyday lives. Skills are developed through listening, performing, composition, thory and aural activitites. Students in these years experience a wide range of musical styles from classical to contemporary,

Music becomes an elective subject in Year 10, where students study in a contemporary context focusing on film, music, scoring and song writing techniques. The Year 11 and 12 WACE Contemporary Music course invites students to hone skills on their principal instrument in a context of their choice, while classroom theory and analysis, aural skills and historical analysis are contemporary based.

A team of dedicated and talented music tutors provide weekly tuition for the following instruments: Cello, Clarinet, Double BAss, Drums, Electric Bass, Flute, Guitar, Piano, Recorder, Saxaphone, Trombone, Trumpet, Viola, Violin, Voice.

The Year 3 String Program and the Year 5 Band Program are run as scholarships to all students in that year group where they are given the chance to experience the joy of learning an instrument for a semester with free instrument hire.e

Georgiana Molloy Anglican School has a number of music ensembles rehearsing weekly. All GMAS music students are invited to join the appropriate group. The groups perform at school concerts, as well as in the community, Perth and in the Bunbury Eisteddfod. We are also exploring dance here at GMAS with the Senior Dance Troupe, combining their work with the orchestra and choir in our end of year Arts Spectacular Show.
